Apple Poised for Record iPhone Shipments in 2025 as Demand Surges
Apple Inc. is heading toward a historic year with iPhone shipments projected to reach 247.4 million units in 2025, eclipsing its 2021 record of 236 million. The 6% year-over-year growth reflects what IDC describes as 'phenomenal success' of the iPhone 17 series, particularly in China where demand has significantly accelerated Apple's performance.
Shipments to retail channels are expected to jump 17% in China during the critical fourth quarter, prompting IDC to revise its forecast for the country's overall smartphone market from a 1% decline to 3% growth. This surge comes as Apple challenges Samsung's 14-year dominance in global smartphone shipments, with Counterpoint Research predicting the Cupertino-based company could overtake its Korean rival in 2025.
Potential supply chain disruptions loom, however, with rumors suggesting Apple may delay the base model iPhone 18 until 2027—a MOVE that could reshape the competitive landscape in subsequent years.
